The Japan Society of Scotland wishes to encourage more knowledge of Japan and Japanese Culture amongst young people in Scotland and is delighted to launch a funding stream for Scottish Primary and Secondary Schools to assist with this.
The school are studying Japan for the first time so wanted a variety of useful books … as well as some food items such as green tea and seaweed snacks.
Doonfoot Primary, South Ayrshire – £158
As the children know very little about Japan, I wanted to introduce them to the food, language, clothes, arts etc. A little taster of everything I can fit into a term.
Gairloch Primary, Wester Ross – £150
The award was used to support the Japan club for the purchase of Japanese snacks, tea sets and to take pupils to Japan related exhibits in Aberdeen.
Mackie Academy, Stonehaven – £440
The Japan Society of Scotland wishes to encourage more knowledge of Japan and
Japanese Culture amongst young people in Scotland and is delighted to launch a funding
stream for Scottish Primary and Secondary Schools to assist with this.
Supported by income from the JTH Charitable Trust we are keen to help schools with the
purchase of resources that will bring Japan into the curriculum. This may be by
purchasing authentic food, snacks, soft drinks, origami paper etc., from the Japan Centre
www.japancentre.com or by providing any other items that will bring the
lessons alive and will enthuse your youngsters. We could also support educational visits
with a Japanese theme e.g., transport to local cultural events, exhibitions etc., or by
paying the expenses of an appropriate speaker. Basically, anything that will help to
promote a better understanding of Japan and its culture and customs to Scottish young
people.
The application process is very simple, just download and complete the form below and let us know what you are hoping to do. If successful we’ll ask for a short report of what your
school has achieved and a few pictures, if possible. We hope to support as many schools
as possible, so please keep the amount as low as you can, and below £500.
Please email your application to the Society’s Treasurer for consideration. We hope to
make quick decisions and be in touch with you soon thereafter to inform you if you have been successful.
